Experimental immobilization of Zn, Pb and Cd by additives to highly contaminated soils

چکیده

Abstract The immobilization effect of soil amendments on leaching and bioavailability Pb, Zn Cd in highly contaminated soils under industrial impact was studied by collecting the surroundings Zn-Pb Smelter “Miasteczko Śląskie” southern Poland as an example. Various amounts four additives (phosphate fertilizer, limestone powder, bentonite rock bog iron ore) were tested laboratory experiments to compare effectiveness three dominant mechanisms immobilization: precipitation phosphates, pH increase, sorption. contents metals before determined extraction CaCl 2 , EDTA aqua regia . Cadmium zinc are mainly represented soluble, bio-available forms extractable while lead potentially bioavailable speciations EDTA. Most effective these increasing pH: powder phosphate fertilizer. Bog ore less because too low for efficient cation adsorption.

REDUCTION OF Cd, Pb AND Ni LEACHING FROM CONTAMINATED SOILS BY IMMOBILIZATION

This paper discusses the results of Cd, Pb and Ni immobilization using cement. Soil contamination levels were in the range 500 mg/kg to 5,000 rug/kg. and cement ratios were in the range 3% to 18%. The process was highly effective in minimizing the leaching of tested heavy metals. The measured leaching reduction results were as follows: 76% to more than 96% for Pb; 30% to more than 99% for Cd; a...

Accumulation Characteristics and Chemical Speciation of Cd, Zn and Pb in Soils Impacted by a Pb-Zn Mining Area

An exploratory study on soil contamination of Cd, Zn, Pb was carried out in the surroundings of a historical, abandoned Pb-Zn mining area in Hunan Province, China. The accumulation in soils and representative plants of Cd, Zn, Pb and their chemical speciation were investigated. The obtained results indicated that Cd, Zn and Pb presented a significant contamination compared with Environmental Qu...

the chemical fractionation of zn, pb and cd in contaminated soils before and after batch extraction by edta

soil washing by mobilizing is one of in-situ techniques for soil decontamination. applying this technique to the contaminated soils could be followed by many environmental problems. therefore, it is important to study the effective factors on removal of heavy metals from different forms. in the present research, the forms of zn, pb, and cd in three contaminated soils from the zinc-lead smelting...

Soils from sites of historical metal mining in western Małopolska (S Poland) are strongly contaminated with Zn, Pb and Cd

Concentrations of Cd, Pb and Zn in soils developed at 63 sites of historical metal mining in western Małopolska (S Poland) were estimated. Heavy metal concentrations were measured with an atomic absorption spectrometer after wet digestion in hot HClO4 (total forms), extraction in 0.1 M BaCl2 (exchangeable forms) or in water (water-soluble forms). Basic soil properties such as texture, C, N, Ca ...

Fractionation of Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn in floodplain soils from Egypt, Germany and Greece

Trace elements are potentially toxic to human life and the environment. Element toxicity depends on chemical associations in soils. Therefore, determining the chemical form of an element in soils is important to evaluate its mobility and bioavailability. Initial soil development in river floodplains influences soil properties, processes and therefore behavior of trace elements. In this study, t...
